artist statement

For years I’ve been interested in human emotions, and how modern environment and technology(such as internet) effects us. Because being a digital generation, I think  it is closely related to my life state.

I always feel that too much internet time makes people more and more isolated. A  study in 2019 found that one in five Americans always or often feel lonely or socially isolated. A large number of people feel " people are around me but not with me."

I’m trying to express loneliness into my works and combine multiple materials to create a series of works. So far, I’m mainly using watercolors, covered or mixed by pastel and charcoal. There are some elements that constantly occurs in my painting. Like forest, light, a human figure. When I painted, I did not tend to use trees and light. I was only thinking putting the human figure into an environment. Others was finished by unconscious and current feeling. There are different sizes of paintings , some are as small as sketches, but they are not actually.  I'm planning to create a large quantity and hanging them one by one on a wall would be great. And there are few bigger paintings on paper, as the size of painting can directly effect the feeling of viewers. So ,I think the two size of the same theme hanging together or opposite to each other will be interesting.

The atmosphere that I want to create is another important aspect. Because it presents the emotional tone. The main hue is dark and gloomy, but I also want to add a little dreamy feeling into paper. because being alone does not just means the lack of connections with other people negatively, but also a opportunity, a time that can be used for reflection, inner searching or experiencing peacefulness. Personally I both suffer and enjoy being alone, I want to show that contradiction to the audiences as well through my work.
